Noynoy is out to continue Arroyo legacy of corruption, failed policies
The student councils of the University of the Philippines (UP) belonging to the Katipunan ng mga Sangguniang Mag-aaral sa UP (KASAMA SA UP) will expose Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino III as the “official heir of Gloria Macapagal Arroyo.”
“Change will never happen under Noynoy [Aquino]’s watch. Being Arroyo’s heir, Noynoy will expectedly continue the corruption and anti-poor programs prevalent in the current administration,” said KASAMA SA UP ex officio officer and UP Student Regent (SR) Charisse Bernadine Bañez. According to SR Bañez, “the desperation of Noynoy to win the elections provided the graceful exit of Arroyo’s men from the dark shadow of Malacañang. This political accommodation is a wholesale betrayal of Noynoy’s anti-corruption slogan and shall benefit Arroyo in the long run. With Noynoy’s Liberal Party teeming with close allies and advisers of Arroyo, how can we expect his administration to be serious with prosecuting Arroyo for her crimes of corruption?”
Arroyo allies who are now in Noynoy Aquino’s Liberal Party include former NEDA Director Ralph Recto, House of Representatives Deputy Majority Floor Leader Rep. Neptali Gonzales Jr., Albay Gov. Joey Salceda, former DSWD Secretary Binky Soliman and former Defense Secretary Avelino Cruz. Senator Mar Roxas, Aquino’s running mate, once served in Arroyo’s cabinet as DTI secretary.
“The students’ action at the UP graduation program is part of series of protests aimed at supporting the Hacienda Luisita farmworkers in their demand for immediate distribution of the sugar estate back to the rightful farmer beneficiaries and to hold the Noynoy Aquino and Cojuangco-Aquino clan accountable for the massacre at the hacienda,” said UP Diliman University Student Council chairperson Rainier Sindayen.
“Under Arroyo, the people have been burdened by the VAT increase pushed by Ralph Recto and we have also experienced failed economic policies that resulted to the rice shortage, oil crisis, sugar crises, etc. Just like the murderous Ampatuan clan that is clearly benefitting now from its close ties with Arroyo, the Noynoy Aquino and the rest Cojuangco-Aquino clan have once escaped prosecution by way of Arroyo’s protection. We can only surmise that Aquino will return the favor for Arroyo when he comes to power,” added Sindayen.###
