Migrante celebrates victories of OFWs in Hong Kong, Europe, Taiwan, US this September

Migrante International celebrated the recent series of milestone victories achieved by overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) in different parts of the world this month of September.

Migrante International Garry Martinez enumerated four (4) landmark cases filed and advocated by OFWs that have won in courts in Hong Kong, Europe, Taiwan and the United States. “All have been won as a result of the resounding support, unity and relentless struggle of our compatriots abroad. This is testament that OFWs united can and will triumph through untiring resolve and collective action.”

DFA asked to explain why legal funds for OFWs unused

Migrante Sectoral Partylist today demanded an explanation from the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) on reports that P52 million in legal funds for overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) remain unused since 2011.

OFWs oppose AOS fee imposition in Dubai

Migrante International today criticized the policy by the Philippine Consulate in Dubai requiring visit visa holders to submit an affidavit of support (AOS) as a travel requirement.

"Why is the Philippine consulate imposing this requirement when it is not even required by the Dubai government? It is another added cost and inconvenience to our OFWs and their visiting relatives," said Garry Martinez, Migrante International chairperson.

Worst year, bleak future ahead for OFWs, says group

Global alliance of overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) and families Migrante International today said that President Benigno Aquino III's first year in office is arguably the worst year for OFWs.

Migrante International joined other sectors in today's People SONA protest. Its chapters in Hong Kong, Japan, Taiwan, Korea, Middle East, Europe, Canada, Australia, New Zealand and the US also held simultaneous protest actions against Aquino's second State of the Nation Address (SONA).
