According to Rafael “Ka Paeng” Mariano, chairman of KMP and concurrent president of ANAKPAWIS party list, “the writ of habeas corpus and the writ of amparo would be a great help to us not just in finding our abducted members but in serving justice and the truth. It would also aid in clearing our organization’ s name from all the black propaganda that the Macapagal-Arroyo regime and the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) has smeared it with,”
“We also believe that the writ of data can also be used not just for the victims of enforced disappearances but also for the whole citizenry so that we can be protected against false information and character assassinations being done by the regime,” said Mariano.
“A very good example is the case of Prof. Jose Maria Sison. He has been accused of so many crimes but impartial investigations show he did not commit them but the Macapagal-Arroyo regime continues to paint him as a terrorist. The writ of habeas data will once and for all clear his name,” added the peasant leader.
“We hope that with the entry of September the writ of habeas data and amparo will immediately be implemented to help us in our quest for truth and justice. In the fight against a corrupt and fascist regime we need all the help we can get,” ended Mariano. # # #
