THE MILITANT Anakpawis Party-list lambasted moves by President Arroyo's Kabalikat ng Malayang Pilipino (KAMPI) party to impeach Chief Justice Reynato Puno and GMA's "intrusion into the judiciary".
"We have seen con-ass moves in Congress spearheaded by Presidential son Mikey Arroyo, a senate coup by administration allies, and now the intrusion into the judiciary.
The plot is getting thicker. This is part of an insidious plot to perpetuate Arroyo in power. Despite official denials by Presidential Political Adviser Gabriel Claudio, Cerge Remonde of the Presidential Management Staff, and Press Secretary Jess Dureza that Malacanang had no hand whatsover with the move to impeach Chief Justice Puno, the fact remains that no one gains from all these moves other than Arroyo herself," Anakpawis secretary-general Cherry Clemente said.
"Claudio, Remonde and Dureza shouldn't act like the three stooges. It's slapstick at its worse," she added.
"If the dominating Kampi allies in the 235-member Congress pusue their impeachment case against Chief Justice Puno, then we will have nowhere to go but back to the streets again in protest," Clemente warned. Arroyo ally Quezon Rep. Danilo Suarez said that they will hear out Olivia Paras, the wife of former Negros Oriental Rep. and Kampi stalwart Jacinto "Jing" Paras.
The Supreme's Court's nonpromulgation of the disqualification of Rep. Jocelyn Limkaichong who defeated Paras in the 2007 elections is being questioned in Congress by Kampi allies following businessman Louis Biraogo's suit against Limkaichong.
In another controversial case, GMA instructed Justice Secretary Raul Gonzales to require state prosecutors to take leave on a P50-million bribe-tainted drug case.
"This is GMA's intrusion into the justice system. Democracy will hopefully correct itself or fail altogether with no one to blame but Arroyo herself," Clemente said.
